Executive Interview of Zappletech

Mykhailo Poliarush
CEO
Please share your feedback about how GoodFirms helps increase your visibility with potential customers.
Listing on GoodFirms allows companies to grow faster, and build their reputation among users and partners. It helps our company increase its credibility and reliability.
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the organization.
Our company provides Quality Assurance, Test Automation, DevOps, and TestOps services to our clients. We can work with clients from the very beginning when they do not even have Quality Assurance or testing at all. We configure all processes, automate testing, and thereby minimize the time spent.
I am the company’s CEO and founder. I am engaged in its development, from marketing and sales to the delivery of each project.
I am the company’s CEO and founder. I am engaged in its development, from marketing and sales to the delivery of each project.
What is the story behind starting this company?
I have 15 years of experience in Quality Assurance. I went from an ordinary tester to an expert and test consultant. In 2010, I formed a QA community where we standardized solutions for clients.
Next was the creation of a company that develops applications and tests. And in 2015, I decided to build a separate company that would deal only with test automation and QA services. Since then, we’ve been providing various testing services: creating frameworks, automating processes, setting up servers, creating the necessary technical infrastructure, consultations, and training.
What is your company's business model: in-house team or third-party vendors/outsourcing?
The company offers several models of cooperation with customers. The first is Managed Service. We take everything under our responsibility. We appoint a project manager, testers, automators, and DevOps engineers. It is an in-house team, and this collaboration model is used to work with clients who previously had no testing process at all or whose QA was quite poor. After communication is established, we move on to automating testing and other processes to speed up continuous integration and continuous deployment.
The second option is Staff Augmentation. In this case, we provide part of the resources. This model is suitable for clients who do not have enough specialists in their full-time teams. In such a situation, the employee joins the customer's team and performs the assigned tasks.
In the context of interaction, we have several approaches to work: an in-house team, its extension in the case when a large pool of specialists is needed, as well as the involvement of third-party specialists. For example, if there is a request for Security Testing, we cooperate with a security specialist.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
We are clearly focused on test automation. Our goal is to automate QA processes for our clients as much as possible. To do this quickly and efficiently, we use an integrated approach.
All members of our team have 15+ years of expertise in this area. We use a lot of programming languages, including Java, Python, Ruby, JS, TypeScript, as well as all the frameworks that support these languages. Thanks to our vast experience, we can offer our clients a wide range of solutions, both open source and paid.
Another hallmark of ours is flexibility. We try to understand the goals set by our clients as much as possible and follow them. At the same time, if something does not meet the client's expectations, we try to adapt to their needs as much as possible.
Thanks to all of the above, 9 out of 10 of our customers recommend cooperation with us.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
There are diverse organizations among the clients of our company. Large, small, those that we have been running for a very long time or with whom we cooperate one-time. Basically, these are medium-sized businesses (companies with 50-100 employees), but there are also those where up to 1000 people are involved in development. We provide test automation outsourcing services to them. The average turnaround time for our projects varies between 9-12 months, but there are also clients who have been working with us for 3-5 years. These clients constantly come to us with new projects. And they make up 60%.
Please share some of the services that you offer, for which clients approach you the most.
We do an audit and review, then evaluate the quality of the existing solution, and create an automation framework on the basis of which it will be implemented. Then we go to test automation.
What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer's needs and requirements?
To best meet the requirements of customers, we have several ways. The first level is management. We have dedicated project managers involved in every project. Regular calls with teams are provided at the level of engineers and managers. Reviews and internal expertise help to control the development results and give feedback. We are always honest and open, and all achievements and problems are always discussed with clients.
What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
As a rule, we integrate into the team in real-time. We discuss all emerging issues on a daily basis. That is, support is ongoing. The management staff is synchronized weekly.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions, etc.)
In 90% of cases, we work according to the Time and Material model, that is, we provide resources at an hourly rate. At the end of the month, these rates are summed up, and we put up timesheets with a detailed description of how the time was spent. Hours are approved by the client, after which we issue a Net 30 bill once a month.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget did you have worked for?
We have the concept of minimum workload. In outsourcing and outstaffing, if we provide one resource, the load should be at least 3 months. If we convert this into a budget, the amount will be 20 thousand dollars. Projects lasting from 6 months are optimal for us.
If we talk about technical consulting, part-time work is also acceptable for us from 4 hours a day for 1-2 weeks. These services are charged per hour.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2021?
The cost of our hourly rate is from $40 to $70 per hour, depending on the expertise of a particular team member. The services of an automator who will carry out test coverage cost the least, $40 per hour. If the requirements are higher (for example, it is necessary to conduct Security Testing), the fee will be higher, respectfully.
Where do you see your company in the next 10 years?
We want to become the #1 provider in automated testing, accumulate the latest trending technologies, increase our expertise, and fulfill it in the form of completed projects for our clients. That is, we want to become a tech company with the largest expertise in the world and provide consulting services.
